SLN Acharyulu - Formerly Director of DMRL & CCR&D

A Legend passes away on Jan 21, 2010 - SLN Acharyulu - Defence Scientist of National and Internaltional - Widely acclaimed and respected.
SLN Acharyulu an Eminent Defence Scientist of National repute who served the Country's premiere establishment DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organization) for over 40 years. A Chemical Engineer from Andhra University turned Metallurgist & specialized into Powder Metallurgy for Defence and Medical applications.
A Legend in his own rights toiled for 40 long years. with utmost commitment and dedication to enable his countrymen and Defence Personnel in particular to reap the benefits. His sincerity was quoted as an Example in DRDO. The organization he joined when DRDO was still setting up. SLN Acharyulu was instrumental in developing an indigenous Brake pads for Defence Aircrafts. He worked closely with HAL initially. Later on as he advanced in the work path like a true Karmayogi faciliatated the rapid development of MIDHANI, MECON, HAPP, ARC. He was the Chairman of Indian Institute of Metals, MRSI, INAE, Institution of Engineers. He was the Director of Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Chief Controller of Research & Development. His contribution in the field of Metallurgy especially for Defence Research & Development as well as in the field of Medicine is laudable, commendable which led India in the path of self reliance in the free independent India. SLN Acharyulu was a strong pillar of DRDO and DMRL in particular. It was during his tenure which rubbed shoulders with stalwarts like Abdul Kalam, VS Arunachalam, P Rama Rao they took DRDO to different heights which made the country proud. SLN Acharyulu was also instrumental to take the joint collaboration with erstwhile Soviet Union to greater heights. Soviet Union during those days was a very close ally of India and a lot of work was done in the Defence Sector as a joint collaboration.
SLN Acharyulu was born in the Year in 1938 to his parents Govinda Acharyulu and Vedavalli and lived in a village called Gutala in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. He was part of a big family of 4 brothers and 5 sisters. A traditional Tamil Brahmin family called the Iyengars and with rich flavour of Samavedam. Vedic chanting and temple rituals was a regular routine in the temple with presiding deity LakshmiNarasimha Swamy.
Though a Tamil Brahmin studied in Telugu Medium and went on to Lead the highly efficient team of Defence Scientists - Nationally as well as Internationally.
SLN Acharyulu married in the year 1969 a beautiful and pious lady from Hyderabad Smt L.N Vatsala who was working for SC Railway, Audit Department. They were blessed with four children Ex Capt LN Sampath Kumar, Usha Sinduja, Sashi Priya and SLN Srikanth (2 sons and 2 daughters).
Powder Metallurgy developments and the toil that went into research work related to it has made him one of the stalwarts, yet the MAN - SLN Acharylu was always filled with humility.
His entire life span was dedicated for DRDO , Armed Forces - Indigineous armaments, Missile technology developments - Metallurgical aspects specifically Powder Metallurgy - Rapid strides made in development in free independent India towards the path of self reliance - SLN Acharyulu made a significant contribution.
